Stride Limited raise funds through annual ‘Blu for Stu’ event
Stride Limited is an Insurance broker in Denmead, and they hold an annual fundraising event, ‘Blu for Stu’, in memory of their much-loved colleague, Stuart, who sadly passed away from a brain tumour in 2018 and was supported by Rowans Hospice Charity at that time.
Stride were an independent company until 2020 when they were acquired by Lloyd & Whyte, who are also keen fundraisers. Lloyd & Whyte are very focused on charitable giving and volunteering, and they encourage all their sites to nominate a local charity to support. Stride voted to continue supporting the Rowans Hospice due to their personal connection, the Charity has struck a chord with many.
‘Blu for Stu’ is held every year in May, as this marks Stuart’s birthday. Staff come together, along with Stuart’s family, and hold a daylong event in the office to raise funds for the Rowans. The most recent ‘Blu for Stu’ event raised an incredible £1,115.50 which brings Stride’s total fundraising amount for the Charity to £13,150.17 since 2004.
Formerly, the ‘Blu for Stu’ day has included sponsored car washing, golf putting games in the office, bake-offs, auctions, and dressing in blue t-shirts, as Stuart was a Pompey supporter.
Stride told us, ‘It’s an event by the people, for the people. Everyone is invested in it, even if they didn’t know Stu personally, the whole workforce pitches in as they can connect with the reason behind it.’ ‘Blue for Stu’ is Stride Limited’s flagship event and will usually always include a raffle. Stride are currently planning this year’s event and we wish them all the very best with our heartfelt thanks to everybody involved and taking part.
