Christmas Covers Annual Concert

Christmas Covers is a fun evening, full of entertainment that has been held every year for 13 years. Bands come together each Christmas to generate income for the Rowans Hospice Charity. After a two-year break due to COVID-19, Christmas Covers returned with their 11th concert at a slightly later date of February 2022.
The event organiser, Rusty, was concerned about how many people would show up due to the pandemic but the concert was a huge success with nearly 200 people attending and 7 bands performing for 15 minutes each. Rusty told us, “not all the bands are serious singers and many have silly names, but we always welcome anyone who wants to take part’. A great event and our thanks to all who took part and attended the event, a total of £912 was raised and we would like to thank all involved.
Rusty explained that ‘The Hospice is close to a lot of the band members’ hearts and has touched many.’ The event originally started in small pubs in Albert Road, Southsea but the c
oncert soon outgrew them with more people attending each year. Christmas Covers soon built a reputation and bands started to request to play at the concert. The event is now held at the Wedgewood Rooms in Southsea, the Manager Jeff is very supportive of the event and kindly hosts the event free of charge in addition to catering to the bands’ needs.
The evening also includes a raffle that local companies support by donating prizes to. The raffle was very popular and raised over half of the grand total, the final amount generated from this year’s concert was £912 which we are so grateful for.
