A special message from Amy

At Rowans, our care doesn’t stop for Christmas.

The nurses at Rowans will be here over Christmas to manage pain, offer reassurance, answer difficult questions and help families make the most of precious time together. Sometimes that means providing expert nursing care. Sometimes it means listening, holding a hand or simply being there when everything feels uncertain.

At Rowans, we do not pretend that Christmas makes the difficult things disappear. Sadness and grief can begin long before someone dies. Our role is to care for the patient and support their family so they can face those difficult times together, while still making space for love, connection and the moments that matter.

While our care continues throughout Christmas and into the New Year, it is only possible because of the generosity of people like you.

Every day, we need to raise £23,700 to provide hospice care, free of charge, to local people and their families. Your gift this Christmas could help another family share precious moments together, when time matters most.

“From the moment Ellie arrived at Rowans, it felt like a home from home where we were welcomed with open arms. Black-and-white family photograph showing two adults and two children sitting together on a sofa with a cat. The young girl reaches up to touch the man’s face, while the boy sits beside the woman with his arms folded. It felt calm and peaceful and was somewhere we could all be together, a contrast to the hospital Ellie had come from.

During Ellie’s stay every moment and every choice was explained calmly and all her decisions were treated with the upmost respect which made us feel at ease during an incredibly difficult time.

The nurses regularly checked on Ellie day and night, making sure she was comfortable and that her pain was well managed. They ensured she had all the care that she needed and I felt reassured she was in safe hands. As a family we felt loved and cared for. Even when I needed five minutes to gather my thoughts, there was someone to talk to. Having someone who understood the journey we were on and who could just listen meant so much. This is what makes Rowans so much more than a place where Ellie received end of life care. It is somewhere the whole family feels supported during some of the hardest moments of our lives. Rowans is personal, it stays in your heart and is somewhere truly special where your loved ones are looked after with compassion and dignity. “
