Press Release: Rowans Hospice launches ‘Moments that Matter’ Appeal
Rowans Hospice, a dedicated provider of free palliative and end-of-life care in South East Hampshire is facing unprecedented financial pressure.
To enable the continuation of free specialist Hospice care, the Charity is now appealing for urgent support from the community by launching their Moments that Matter Appeal.
Deborah Paris, Executive Chairman of Rowans Hospice, said “Like many other hospices across the country, the gap between our costs and income has risen significantly. We are now faced with having to make some very difficult decisions in order to try and secure our future financial sustainability. Regrettably, this means restructuring our services and making some staff redundant. We are not ceasing services, but will have to reduce the amount of services we provide. In doing so, we will continue to focus on the quality of our care on which so many rely.”
The Charity relies almost entirely on voluntary donations to meet its running costs. Only 10% of its annual budget is met by the government.
Rowans has been providing care for the past 30 years, helping to improve the quality of life for people affected by life-limiting illness by easing physical symptoms as well as offering psychological, spiritual and social support. All services are offered free of charge to patients, their families and carers, either on the Hospice’s In-patient Unit or in the comfort of their own home.
Now, Rowans Hospice is appealing for support from the community through their ‘Moments that Matter’ Appeal, aiming to support the delivery of its services.
The Appeal, running until the end of 2024, seeks urgent support from individuals, businesses, and organisations to help Rowans continue the delivery of its much-needed specialist Hospice care to Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham, Hayling Island, Petersfield, Waterlooville and surrounding areas.
