Ben Bendall from Reassured, the UK’s largest life insurance broker, explains why it was important to support Rowans Hospice as their chosen charity for the Portsmouth region.

Why support Rowans Hospice?

If you live or work in the Portsmouth area, then there is a good chance that you would have heard of Rowans Hospice and the amazing work they do caring for people with life-limiting illnesses and supporting their families, friends and carers. It is also possible that you know of someone who may have relied on Rowans Hospice and so understand first-hand the invaluable care that they provide when someone is in genuine need.

So, when we asked our dedicated employees at the North Harbour office, which local charity they wanted to support with fundraising initiatives, it was no surprise when Rowans Hospice received, by far, the highest number of votes in our online poll.

Whilst the life insurance sector is obviously very different to the vital work undertaken at a hospice, we believe both our organisations share some common values which we hold dear. Values such as respect, care, dignity, integrity and family, making it the perfect partnership in our eyes.

How we raised funds

Over recent times we have raised much needed funds for Rowans Hospice in a range of different ways, all driven by staff from our Portsmouth office. We ran a very successful Easter cake sale with many staff members participating in both the baking a9a4f907c 5c16 4939 948e 8da26c1cd2cdnd the eating.

Our regional sales manager, Chris Male (pictured), trained for and completed the Winchester half marathon raising an impressive £950 and smashing through his initial £500 target.

Members of our team have also taken time out to personally support some of the fantastic events which Rowans Hospice have staged, such as the South Downs Food Festival and Shining Stars Walk.

Future fundraising plans

We understand that the need for fundraising does not diminish over time and that Rowans Hospice need financial support from both businesses like Reassured and local people so that they are able to do what they excel at, caring for people in their time of need.

Our charity forum, who meets every month to discuss ideas, have a range of exciting initiatives planned for 2025, to further support Rowans Hospice and our other chosen charities across the UK, including a Tough Mudder event, Yorkshire 3 Peak Challenge, Royal Parks Half Marathon and the Great South Run.

We look forward to continuing to support this brilliant local charity who make a genuine difference to people’s lives. Thank you to everyone at Rowans Hospice for your invaluable contribution to our community and we look forward to helping raise more funds in the future.

Yvonne Penny-Filewod, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Rowans Hospice says

We are incredibly grateful to Reassured and their Portsmouth team for choosing Rowans Hospice as their charity partner. It is inspiring to see how engaged the staff are in supporting our work, from fundraising initiatives to spreading the word about what we do.
