On Tuesday, 29 April 2025, Adam Whitehead held his “Rowans 3 Club Challenge” with his friends, and raised a wonderful £770.65 for Rowans Hospice!

His Rowans 3 Club Challenge:

In the glorious sunshine of Tuesday 29th April, 13 friends and (very amateur) golfers met to play the eagerly anticipated inaugural “Rowans 3 Club Challenge” at the par-3 Copse course at Goodwood near Chichester. Designed by specialist architect James Edwards, this beautiful facility at Goodwood offers 6 par-3 holes at 50-90 yards threaded between the established oaks and pines at the Goodwood Golf Academy.Picture1

Playing twice around the 6-hole course was made all the more challenging by a rule restricting each player to just 3 clubs to include a putter and a 6 iron. There were balls all over the place!

On the very short hole 3 (just 47 yards downhill) it was mandatory to tee off with a 6 iron, which is typically more suited to shots of around 150-180 yards; the necessarily deft touch eluded quite a few!

Nearest the Pin: Hole 4 presented a further test of skill to get ‘Nearest the Pin’ with the winner’s tee shot just 15 inches from the hole, disappointing the hopeful efforts of all previous attempts!

The Birdie Challenge: 4 players managed to find the cup in 2 shots off the tee on at least one of the holes, resulting a birdie score, including one who ‘shot’ two birdies in his round.

“After a challenging hour and a half on the course the players retired to enjoy a hearty English breakfast and prize giving at The Goodwood Kennels Golf Club. A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all and their efforts and generosity combined to raise £770.65 for The Rowans Hospice.”
