Hospice Care Week

October 2nd, 2017 Posted in Hospice News

People are invited to drop in to Rowans Living Well Centre Open Day on Saturday 14 October between 10am and 3pm. The Open Day is one of the events taking place during Hospice Care Week (9-15 October 2017) led by national hospice and palliative care charity, Hospice UK.

Amanda Mahoney, Marketing & Communications Manager at Rowans Hospice, said: “The Open Day is a wonderful opportunity to come and find out more about Rowans Hospice, Rowans Hospice at Home, Rowans Living Well Centre, Rowans Retail and Rowans Care Agency. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions about the support and services available for the community. There will be opportunities to find out more about volunteering with us or fundraising for us and to buy your Christmas cards, and 2018 diaries and calendars, with all profits going to the charity.”

Rowans Living Well Centre is in Purbrook Heath Road adjacent to Rowans Hospice. Optional tours of the Hospice will be offered throughout the day with refreshments available.

Also taking place during Hospice Care Week, on Wednesday 11 October at 2pm, is the presentation of this year’s School’s Project. 12 children from St Peter’s Catholic Primary School have taken part in an art project with 12 people who either attend Day Care at Rowans Hospice or Rowans Living Well Centre. This will be a celebration of what the children and patients have created together.

Then on Friday 13 October at 3pm, there will be a play by Brian Daniels at Rowans Living Well Centre entitled ‘Fighting for Life’ which tells the story of the treatment received by veteran James Findlay leading up to his Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis until his death. Afterwards there will be a discussion with the actors. Tickets can be reserved in advance as numbers are limited by emailing communications@rowanshospice.co.uk. A donation of £5 on the door is kindly suggested.

Throughout the week, everyone is encouraged to ‘Go Yellow’ for Hospice Care by holding a dress down day, a bake sale or another yellow themed event of their choosing. Contact fundraising@rowanshospice.co.uk for more ideas and a fundraising pack.
