David Sparrow took on an incredible challenge, running a Half Marathon and an Ultra Marathon (76km) to raise vital funds for the Rowans Hospice Charity. David set out to test himself whilst supporting a Charity close to his heart, as David’s family have many friends who have used the Rowans Hospice Charity services. In particular, David set out to do his fundraising challenges in support of a close family friend, Dave, who is currently receiving support from the Hospice. David told us, “the Rowans Hospice is such a fantastic Charity. The work they do is invaluable to the community. Without the Hospice Dave would be having such a hard time and the support his partner receives is priceless.”

David took on the Half Marathon at the start of the year before deciding he wanted to push himself further and complete an Ultra Marathon, in total raising an incredible £3,100! We asked David why he decided to take on this amazing challenge, he told us, ” I have always been a runner but I have never done that distance before. I wanted to test myself whilst also taking on a challenge I could complete within the Government Guidelines at the time.” David continued to tell us how he studying for a Vetinary degree at University. This is quite an intense degree, so David did the majority of his running prior to his Ultra Marathon in the Summer, with not much training in the lead up to the day! David has given his advice for others looking to push themselves and take on a challenge: “It’s an amazing experience and an achievement to look back on and be proud.”

David has said he is keen to take on another running challenge in the new year; he is testing himself further and is aiming to run 100km! We look forward to seeing David achieve his next goal!
