Covers – Baking for Rowans Hospice Charity

Our wonderful corporate supporters, Covers Timber and Builders Merchant once again supported the Rowans Hospice Charity during their charity week in September. Both the Gosport and Portsmouth Depots arranged bake sales with many tasty cakes available for customers in exchange for a donation, as well as members of staff taking part in a ‘Bake Off’ style competition.

When we asked the Portsmouth and Gosport Depot Managers why they chose to fundraise for Rowans Hospice Charity they told us “We thought it would be nice to be able to do something for charity. It was also a great way for staff to get involved in something together.” They went on to tell us how they were very keen to support the Hospice as “Most employees know someone that has been affected by a life-limiting illness, so the Charity is very close to a lot of people’s hearts. With the Rowans Hospice Charity being very local, it was a Charity that many are touched by and wanted to get behind. Employees really felt inspired to get involved with the fundraising activities for us, a lot of the team got stuck into baking cakes for the Bake Off style competition.”

Covers are massive supporters of the Rowans Hospice Charity but like many they were affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic, they told us “It has been a crazy and tough time for Covers like anywhere. We closed for one month during the entire pandemic but then continued to operate the rest of the time, as we helped to sustain supplies for vital/emergency contracts. A lot of the team were able to work from home but it did affect everyone in some way or another. It was a very busy period for Covers though throughout the pandemic as stock was in short supply due to supply chain issues. We are glad that stores are now back open for business as normal.”

Finally, we asked Managers, Jamie and Dale if they have plans to fundraise in the future. They told us they have plans to auction off a Football Shirt in the near future which we look forward to!
