£100,000 raised for Rowans Hospice Charity
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to the wonderful Portsmouth Golf Club members, who have been supporters of Rowans Hospice since 1996. They set out with a £100,000 target and after 27 years, they have not only reached their incredible target, they have exceeded it by raising £101,134 in aid of local Hospice care – a phenomenal achievement! They recently visited the Hospice with their most recent donation of £3,100 which can be seen in the photo above.
Portsmouth Golf Club was formed in 1926 and has played over the Downland course off Crookhorn Lane since 1972. The club has been raising money for the Charity in a variety of ways, including their senior section, Charity golf days, and golfers taking part in marathons. Members have a wonderful community spirit and everyone is generous – despite the current cost-of-living crisis.
The club’s biggest fundraising event is their annual Charity golf day. Local firms sponsor holes with an average of 80 – 120 people taking part. The day includes a raffle and a BBQ, with all profits going to the Charity. The big competition is always well received, with many visitors from other clubs attending.
In the last few years, COVID-19 has made the running of the Charity golf day difficult, but the club has still continued to raise funds. Raising £100,000 has always been the club’s goal, and meeting this target has been a huge achievement.
Many members of the club saw friends and family members being supported by Rowans Hospice Charity. Trevor, a member of the club told us; “My partner was cared for at the Hospice. We want to support the local Charity because the Hospice has touched everybody in the Portsmouth area in one way or another.”
The next Charity golf day is being held in May this year, and we are looking forward to seeing the success of the club continue.
