Join us for an evening of sequins and showbiz

Rowans Hospice Charity are delighted to announce that the Rowans Does Strictly LIVE show will be held on Saturday, 21 January 2023 at Portsmouth Guildhall.

The fourteen ‘Strictly Stars’ are training hard in the dance studio and they cannot wait to chasse onto the dance floor and perform either a Latin or Ballroom dance to our celebrity judges and you, our fantastic audience.

Who will win the Glitterball Trophy?

Fab-u-lous fun and entertainment

Whilst our Strictly Stars warm up backstage, the wonderful Lisa Marie, will be entertaining you with her fantastic vocals.

As a former professional dancer , Lisa has performed all over the word in theatres, cruise ships and touring shows, however she is now a versatile and established vocalist who covers genres from the 50s/60s through to chart hits.

The Rowans Does Strictly LIVE show promises to be a night of ‘fab-u-lous’ fun and entertainment, compered by local broadcaster Darren Gamblen. Not only will our Strictly Stars be performing their couples dances, but they have also been practicing two great group dances to wow the crowds.

Meet our Strictly Stars
  • Dave Rushforth Untitled design (26)& Alexis Trowbridge
Dave is always first on the dance floor, and Alexis has loved dance forever so we leaped at the opportunity to take part in Rowans Does Strictly and raise money for the Charity. We will be forever grateful for the care our sister-in-law, Elaine, and Alexis’ dad, Roy received from the Hospice teams.

We love ‘Strictly’ and all the different dances! To have the chance to take on this challenge and learn to dance is amazing. It will be a massive surprise to our family and they will be 100% behind us as my mum was cared for by the Charity in 1997.

I am a Dementia Clinical Nurse Specialist working at Rowans Hospice and I am thrilled to be taking part. I want to raise money for our amazing Charity and awareness of how we support people with Dementia. It will also fulfill a lifelong dream to learn ballroom dancing and I can’t wait to get dancing!
  • Rowans does Strictly audition at The Pyramids Centre, SouthseaNaomi Edgson
I am looking forward to taking on ‘Rowans Does Strictly’ to help raise money for a charity very close to my heart and to give a little back. My mum was cared for by the Charity before she passed away from Motor Neurone Disease. The care and support she, and our family received was incredible.

I simply love dancing. Taking part in Rowans does Strictly is a way of doing what I enjoy, whilst raising money for a great local Charity.

I can’t wait to have this opportunity to combine my biggest passions in life. The first, being able to make a difference, give back to my local community, and such an inspirational Charity. The second, allowing me the chance to fall back in love with dancing again, which was always a big part of my life. Thank you Rowans Hospice Charity.
  • Rowans does Strictly audition at The Pyramids Centre, Southsea Karen King
I have always loved dancing, so when the opportunity came along to support the Charity and dust off my dancing shoes, I jumped at the chance! The Charity has a special place in my heart as my Dad spent a year visiting the Living Well Centre before he passed away. The support provided to patients and their family is fantastic.
  • Rowans does Strictly audition at The Pyramids Centre, SouthseaJill Ricketts & Biff Pearce
We can’t wait to take on this fundraising dance challenge. Fingers crossed my recent lessons in Ceroc may help!  The care the Charity gave to my beautiful Sarah in her final days was second to none and is my reason for taking part. Rowans is where Angels work.
  • Rowans does Strictly audition at The Pyramids Centre, SouthseaRay Southam
I get the Strictly bug every year and have always wanted to try something like it. When I turned 40 I decided to make it a year of doing different things, so I can’t wait to find out if I can dance. I have also said YES to a marriage proposal, so I could also be training for my first dance!
  • Rowans does Strictly audition at The Pyramids Centre, SouthseaMelissa Tolson
If you can call ‘attempting to copy dance moves from music videos’ experience, then I have a little bit. Most importantly I have a love of dance, so I am really looking forward to taking part in ‘Rowans Does Strictly!’ I never had the confidence to attend a class on my own so it is going to be amazing to get professional help.
  • Jane Website Image (1)Jane Rowland
I am very excited to be taking part in Rowans Does Strictly! Zena and I are friends, and her original dance partner unfortunately had to withdraw, so she asked me if I would take part. Learning to Ballroom and Latin dance has been such a fun experience.
Meet the Judges

Bessie Cursons
Judge number one is the talented Bessie Cursons from Bessie Cursons Academy of Theatre and Dance.

Bessie originally agreed to support us back in 2020, before our plans were put on hold due to COVID-19.

We are so excited that she is still able to bring her years of experience as a dancer and actress to the show and help make this an evening to remember.

Emma Barton (1)

Judge number two is the fabulous actress, Emma Barton.

As well as appearing in a number of television programmes and stage shows, Emma competed in the 17th series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2019, reaching the Grand Final with professional dance partner Anton Du Beke.

We are thrilled to have Emma’s Strictly knowledge on the judging panel.

Ellesha Rolison Web page ImageJudge number three is professional dancer, and teacher, Ellesha Rolison.

Ellesha bring an impressive set of experiences to the show, having danced at Buckingham Palace with the prestigious Tap Dogs, the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony as well as various Bollywood films and corporate events and is now teaching at SD Studios, Portsmouth.

We can not wait to see what Ellesha brings to the show.

Meet the Dance Instructors

Our Strictly Stars are being put through their paces by David Keal and Christine Wilkes who are from the Keal School of Dance and Instep Dance Club respectively.

David and Christine are both fully trained professional dance instructors and are well qualified to teach all kinds of dance genres.  They have kindly donated their time to Rowans Hospice Charity to train our Strictly Stars in Ballroom and Latin dances every week.

Take a look at David and Christine in the video below demonstrating a fab-u-lous Swing Dance during a rehearsal.
