How can I talk to a child about a loved one’s illness?
What language should I use?
How much information should I share and when?
What are the signs a child may need specialist support?
Rowans Meerkat Service is part of the Rowans Hospice organisation. We support children up to the age of 18 who have a significant adult (e.g. a parent or grandparent) with a life-limiting illness or who have been bereaved of an adult close to them.
If you are seeking advice regarding a child, please book onto one of our ‘Meet a Meerkat’ sessions held at the Living Well Centre. These stand-alone 30-minute appointments allow you to meet with a clinician to discuss concerns or seek advice and guidance in relation to a child. During the appointment, if the clinician assesses that your (the family’s) situation meets the criteria for a referral, they will discuss this with you.
This appointment is for a parent/guardian or other key family member. Please DO NOT bring any children to the ‘Meet a Meerkat’ session.
