Winter is a season of contrasts. It is a time of joy and celebration, filled with laughter and merriment. Yet, for many, winter can be a daunting and difficult time without loved ones who have died but live on forever in our hearts. Coming together to remember those who have touched our lives becomes all the more significant.

Join us at our annual Lake of Lights in-memory event, taking place at Canoe Lake in Southsea on Sunday, 17 December 2023, from 17:00 hrs.

This is a wonderful opportunity to remember those special to you and dedicate a candle that will be placed on the lake to create a magical ‘Lake of Lights’ while reflecting on memories shared with loved ones who are no longer with us.

If you would like to join us for this special community event, please register your interest below:

There will be plenty of opportunities to pay tribute to your loved ones on the night, in addition to lighting a candle and floating it on the lake: You can also write a dedication on our memory wall or our memory tree, both located at the Rowans Hospice Gazebo next to Canoe Lake.

At 18:00 hrs the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth will welcome all attendees, followed by a remembrance service led by the Charity’s Spiritual Care Chaplain, Carol Gully. The Purbrook Community Choir will join us to create a musical atmosphere.

Parking will be available along the Seafront from Eastney to South Parade Pier, along with the Canoe Lake Car Park. Hot drinks and refreshments can be purchased from the Canoe Lake Café.

What is Light up a Life?

Light up a Life is a series of special, in-memory community events that are organised by Hospices and take place across the UK during the festive period. Christmas is a special time of year for us, giving time to create new memories with people we love, but also a time to reflect and remember loved ones who live on forever in our hearts.

Join us for a meaningful evening, remembering those who are no longer with us whilst supporting the care we provide at the Rowans Hospice.

Everyone is welcome to attend our Lake of Lights event, whether you have received support from the Charity or not.
