Leaving a gift in your Will to Rowans Hospice could help ensure that someone at the end of life receives free, compassionate care — and that their family is supported every step of the way.
These special gifts provide a third of the voluntary income we rely on, and with rising costs and growing demand for our services, they are more important than ever for the future of the Hospice.
Writing a Will is a simple but powerful act. It ensures your loved ones are looked after and gives you the chance to support causes that matter to you. It also brings peace of mind to those you leave behind by clearly setting out your wishes and helping to avoid unnecessary confusion or stress at an already difficult time.

Last year, gifts left in Wills to Rowans Hospice amounted to the equivalent of a full year’s running costs for our In-Patient Unit—helping us provide free, expert end-of-life care for over 380 people in our local community and vital support for their loved ones. A gift in your Will could help ensure this care continues for future generations.
Types of gifts you can leave in your Will:
This is a percentage of what remains of your estate after any cash gifts, debts, and other costs have been paid. You can choose to leave all, or a share, of this remainder to Rowans Hospice.
This is a specific amount of money to be left. As the value of money can decrease over time, it can be helpful to review your Will regularly to make sure it still reflects your wishes.
This is a specific item, such as jewellery, artwork or another valuable possession. We carefully assess and sell gifted items through the best channel to raise as much as possible.
At Rowans Hospice, we care for patients and their families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. The generosity of those who choose to leave a gift in their Will ensures that we can continue providing expert, compassionate care for generations to come.
We spoke with Gordon White who kindly shared the story of his family’s connection with Rowans Hospice and why two generations of his family have chosen to leave a legacy gift to support our work.

Each year Rowans Hospice hosts Make a Will Fortnight—a special campaign where local solicitors generously volunteer their time to write or update Wills in exchange for a donation to the Hospice.
It is a meaningful way to put your affairs in order while supporting the care we provide to patients and their families.
If you need to make a Will before the next campaign, please do not hesitate to contact us as we may be able to help arrange this for you.
To be among the first to hear when appointments become available, simply sign up using the form below.
Once you complete this form, our Individual Giving and Legacy Manager will be in touch with you with the final list of participating solicitors and how to make your Will during Make a Will Fortnight.
Having the right Will in place is essential, not only to ensure your wishes are respected, but to also help your loved ones during a difficult time. While we are unable to offer legal advice, we work closely with trusted local solicitors, some of whom are listed below and would be happy to advise you through the process.

No, we are unable to write Wills as we cannot provide legal advice. We recommend contacting a qualified solicitor for support. On this page you will find details of local solicitors that we have worked with previously, or you may wish to speak with your own solicitor.
Unfortunately, no. While we are honoured by your trust, we do not have the capacity or legal expertise to take on such important responsibilities. A qualified solicitor can guide you in appointing a suitable person, and some may offer this service directly.
No. Any solicitor you choose will act solely on your instructions and in your best interests. Rowans Hospice cannot and will not request to be included in your Will or influence its contents in any way.
Yes, although we encourage supporters to leave gifts without restrictions if possible. Our needs can change over time, so an unrestricted gift allows us to use your donation where it is needed most. However, if you do have a specific wish, we recommend discussing it with your solicitor and with us to ensure we can honour your intentions.
No, we are unable to witness Wills—especially if you are leaving a gift to Rowans Hospice. To help prevent any legal complications, it is best to have your Will witnessed by individuals who are entirely independent and not connected to any beneficiaries.
No, you are under no obligation to tell us. However, if you do choose to let us know, it can be incredibly helpful. It allows us to plan more confidently for the future and better understand the reasons why people choose to support us in this special way.
You do not need to share any specific details with us unless you want to, but simply knowing that you have included Rowans Hospice in your Will means we can stay in touch and show you how much your legacy truly means to us.
