Would you like to support bereaved people?
Rowans Hospice are recruiting for Family Service Volunteers to work within the Bereavement Service, providing 1:1 emotional support to people who have lost a loved one. You will provide 50-60 minute sessions giving people the space to talk about their grief and make sense of their thoughts and feelings. You will help people understand their bereavement and how grief might affect them whilst helping them come to terms with their loss.
You will be joining a large supportive team of clinical psychologists, volunteer counsellors, trainee counsellors, and other Family Service Volunteers. Regular group supervision will be provided by the clinical psychologists
Undertaking this role will involve completing a 9-day training course. The course takes place over three 3-day modules (9 days in total) with each module taking place approximately one month apart.
Module 1 will teach advanced ‘active listening’ skills, looking at the core components for providing confident, attuned support to people in distress.
Dates 9th, 10th, 11th January 2024
Module 2 will focus on the impact of loss and bereavement on people, including some of the theories that help us understand the impact of loss, particular reasons that some people are more vulnerable to complex bereavement reactions, and ways that we can support the bereaved.
Dates 20th, 21st, 22nd February 2024
Module 3 will look more closely at issues such as ‘managing risk’, ‘taking care of ourselves’, ‘the importance of boundaries’. We’ll also look at the ways different services across the hospice provide support.
Dates 12th, 13th, 14th March 2024
Successful completion of all 9 days of the course is required to become a Family Service Volunteer.
Closing date: 30th November 2023.
Interviews will take place during the first 3 weeks of December.
