Behind the Mask is a 4-week course that offers participants the opportunity to take a deep dive into their life experiences. In these group sessions, we use the creative process of mask-making to explore different questions and themes, including:

  • Our sense of self and identity – who are we? What makes us unique?
  • Where we find our meaning and purpose – what matters to us?
  • Our thoughts, feelings and emotions.
  • Our hopes and fears – for ourselves and those around us.

This course will help you to find:

  • Greater self-awareness and the ability to manage difficult thoughts and feelings;
  • Personal creativity, freedom and self-expression;
  • Feelings of calm or relaxation, with a decrease in depression, anxiety or stress;
  • Greater clarity about what is important to you – and how this might impact your future care and decisions
  • Improved relationships with family and friends – opening pathways for deeper conversations;
  • Peer support and friendship
  • A deeper sense of love or compassion – for themselves and others.

No previous experience or creative talent is required; we work with painting and collage, and all materials will be provided.

Behind the Mask is led by a skilled member of staff who will provide support and guidance throughout the course, as well as ensuring a safe and confidential space for participants.

“I have appreciated the deep and precious work we have done […] it was fantastic! Really helped to process and understand my feelings around my diagnosis […] Bryony really held the group aided by Debbi so always felt secure and confident […] more courses please! Lots of love and compassion in our group.”

“I have enjoyed meeting new people and feel my confidence has grown as it was very low prior to attending. I have enjoyed re-connecting with crafting which is something I have not done for a long time [...] Thinking about my legacy has been difficult to manage […] Thank you, I loved it.”

“I was able to do something I didn’t think I’d be able to do. [I have enjoyed] talking about things I don’t normally get to talk about, the confidentiality of the space […] I was able to do most things with Debbi’s help […] thank you for the wonderful course.”
