Moments and Memories

At Rowans Hospice, we don’t just provide expert hospice care — we look after the little things too. The moments of joy, comfort, and connection that mean so much to the families we support.

In my role as Clinical Lead, I have the privilege of witnessing these moments every day. I will never forget one patient who married her partner here at the hospice. She had shared a simple wish: to enjoy one last ice cream in the sunshine. On her wedding day, we arranged a surprise visit from an ice cream van, and we gently wheeled her bed down the corridor, her husband by her side.

In that moment, surrounded by love, laughter, and a sense of normality, she was simply herself — enjoying ice cream with the person she loved.

Every day, we help create moments that matter — moments of comfort, togetherness, laughter, and love. Moments that families will carry with them forever.

But we cannot do it without you.

We rely on the generosity of our community to raise 78% of our income, ensuring our services remain free of charge for those who need us most. As demand for our care continues to grow, so too does our need for your support.

Today, I would like to personally invite you to make a dedication in memory of a loved one as part of our Moments & Memories appeal. By doing so, you are not only honouring someone special, but also helping us continue to provide the compassionate care that makes these moments possible.

We would also love for you to join us at our Moments & Memories summer event on Sunday 14 June, held at the beautiful Holywell Estate in Swanmore. It will be a special day of remembrance, bringing people together to reflect, celebrate, and honour those we hold in our hearts.

This summer, it is people like you, alongside our dedicated nurses, who make these moments possible. Your kindness and generosity allow us to continue being there for every family who needs us.

Whether you are able to join us in June or support us from afar, your donation today will help ensure we can continue to provide compassionate care and create meaningful moments for those in our care.

My wife was given a beautiful Hospice room, and we could open the doors to the garden. It was like home from home. I know that sounds like the littlest thing in the world, but we were able to watch our favourite thing on tv with the kids, which we always enjoyed doing at home. So many memories were made in the last two weeks. Just the little things – and those are things that I think really matter. They are the big moments.
