Gifts in Wills play a vital role in our future. Around £1 in every £3 of our voluntary income comes from gifts left in Wills, helping us continue providing compassionate care and support.
Last year, gifts left in Wills contributed the equivalent of a full year’s running costs for our In-patient Unit, helping us provide expert care and support for more than 380 people.
Every gift in every Will helps ensure that future patients and families can access the care and support they need in our local community.
There are several ways you can leave a gift in your Will, and you can choose the option that feels right for you.
A residuary gift is a share, or all, of what remains of your estate after any debts, taxes, expenses and other gifts have been paid. You can choose to leave a percentage of your estate, helping ensure your gift makes a lasting difference.
A pecuniary gift allows you to leave a specific sum of money in your Will. Reviewing your Will regularly helps ensure your wishes remain up to date and your gift continues to reflect what matters most to you.
A specific gift allows you to leave a particular item in your Will, such as jewellery, artwork or another valuable possession. We carefully consider each gift and, where appropriate, sell items in the best way to raise funds.
Local solicitor Nadine Walsh-Gonzalez from Futurity Wills kindly offers to write simple Wills throughout the year in exchange for a donation to Rowans Hospice. The donation can be made at the time of booking or, if you prefer, you can choose to leave a gift to the Hospice in your Will.

Yes. You are welcome to use a solicitor of your choice to write or update your Will. However, if your chosen solicitor is not taking part in our Make A Will campaign, their usual fees are likely to apply.
No. You are not required to leave a gift to Rowans Hospice in your Will. You can choose to make a donation instead. Any decision about who you leave your estate to is entirely yours.
No. Rowans Hospice is unable to write Wills or provide legal advice. We recommend contacting a qualified solicitor who can guide you through the process and help make sure your wishes are properly reflected in your Will.
Unfortunately, no. While we are honoured by your trust, we do not have the capacity or legal expertise to take on these important responsibilities.

No. Your solicitor will act solely on your instructions and in your best interests. While we may invite you to consider leaving a gift to Rowans Hospice, we will never influence your decisions about what you include in your Will or ask the solicitor to make decisions on your behalf.
The solicitor’s role is to listen, provide legal advice and help ensure your Will accurately reflects your wishes. Your Will is a personal record of what matters to you, and you remain completely in control of who you choose to leave your estate to.
Yes, although where possible, we encourage supporters to leave gifts without restrictions. Our needs can change over time, and an unrestricted gift allows us to use your donation where it is needed most.
If you have a particular wish for how your gift should be used, we recommend discussing this with your solicitor and with us to make sure we understand your intentions and can confirm whether we would be able to honour them.
No. We are unable to witness Wills, particularly where you are leaving a gift to the Hospice.
To help avoid any potential legal complications, your Will should be witnessed by people who are independent and are not connected to you as beneficiaries.
No, you are under no obligation to tell us if you have included us in your Will.
However, if you do choose to let us know, it can be incredibly helpful. It allows us to plan more confidently for the future and better understand the reasons why people choose to support us in this special way.
You do not need to share any specific details about your Will unless you want to. Simply letting us know that we have been included means we can keep you updated about our work.
