Fundraising can seem quite daunting but it doesn’t need to be. With a little thought and preparation it can be fun, sociable and rewarding. The following checklist offers some useful tips to help you get the most out of your fundraising.
Set up your personal online sponsorship page
You can do this quickly and easily at www.justgiving.com/rowanshospice Online sponsorship is a convenient and safe way for people to sponsor you and you’ll have fun creating your page.
Set yourself a fundraising goal
The Moonlit Memories Walk is a fundraising challenge so we ask every walker to set a target of £100 in sponsorship. But that doesn’t mean you can’t aim for a higher target!
Make a list of family and friends
A list is handy for promoting your online sponsorship page and for inviting people to your events
Promote your online fundraising page
Don’t blitz your email address book in one go. Start with a few people you can rely on to sponsor you and who are likely to donate generously. Don’t forget to contact your friends overseas
Think about fundraising activities
Spend some time thinking about how you’d like to raise money. If you get stuck go to fundraising ideas for some inspiration.
Hold a fundraising event
Group fundraising is always more fun, so consider an activity at school, college or work where others can get involved. If you’ve never held an event before go to plan your own event for our useful guide.
Ask your employer for help
Many employers support ‘match-giving’ for charitable causes. Tell your employer about your involvement in the walk and see if you can get the amount you raise matched.
Use the internet
Spread the word about your online sponsorship page with a widget. These are little badges that you can add to your webpage or social networking profile to promote sponsorship. You could also change your email signature to include a link to your online sponsorship page, so that every email you send out promotes the walk
Say ‘thank you’
Keep your supporters regularly updated and always thank anyone who has sponsored you
Don’t stop fundraising after the event!
Your online sponsorship page will continue to accept donations for up to three months after the walk. Tell all your supporters how the walk went and update your page to show a photo of you crossing the finishing line or holding your medal. Those yet to sponsor you will have no excuse to drag their heels!
Promote Gift Aid
Whether you’re accepting sponsorship via an online sponsorship page or using a traditional sponsorship form, make your supporters aware that an extra 25% is automatically added to donations if they’re a UK taxpayer and they make use of Gift Aid.
