Fundraising can seem quite daunting but it doesn’t need to be. With a little thought and preparation it can be fun, sociable and rewarding. The following checklist offers some useful tips to help you get the most out of your fundraising.
Think about fundraising activities
Group fundraising is always fun, so consider an activity at school, college or work where others can get involved. If you’ve never held an event before go to plan your own event for our useful guide.
Set up your personal online sponsorship page
Whether you're taking part in one of our events or organising your own, you can set up an online fundraising page as a convenient and safe way for people to sponsor you . You can do this quickly and easily at www.justgiving.com/rowanshospice.
Set yourself a fundraising goal
Think of a sensible amount you think your event could achieve in sponsorship. It's good to have a target that's achievable and to help your sponsors see how much they're contributing towards it.
Promote your online fundraising page
Don’t blitz your email address book or Facebook friends in one go. Start with a few people you can rely on to sponsor you and who are likely to donate generously. Don’t forget to contact your friends overseas who can donate online too!
Ask your employer to match fund
Many employers support ‘match-giving’ for charitable causes. Tell your employer about your involvement in fundraising for the Hospice and see if you can them to match the amount you raise.
Say ‘thank you’
Keep your supporters regularly updated and always thank anyone who has sponsored you.
Don’t stop fundraising after the event
Your online sponsorship page will continue to accept donations for up to three months after an event has happened. Tell all your supporters how it went and update your page to show a photo of you crossing the finishing line or holding your medal and so on. Those yet to sponsor you will have no excuse to drag their heels!
Promote Gift Aid
Whether you’re accepting sponsorship via an online sponsorship page or using a traditional sponsorship form, make your supporters aware that an extra 25% is automatically added to donations if they’re a UK taxpayer and they make use of Gift Aid.
