In-patient Specialist Palliative Care Service
Specialty Doctor Position commencing April 2024 (an earlier start date may be possible)
Rowans Hospice provides specialist palliative care to adults with life limiting illnesses in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire. We work in partnership with Portsmouth University Hospital NHS trust and our two Community Trusts to offer community, day and in-patient specialist services.
We are looking to cover maternity leave, with the possibility of a longer-term post for the right candidate.
You will join a friendly and well supported multi-professional team, committed to high standards of care. Your primary role will be to deliver specialist palliative care to the ward in-patients. This is a service post to assist the Consultants and Specialist doctors with the management of an increasingly complex and intense caseload. There is excellent support for personal and career development with plenty of opportunity for education and quality improvement work.
The position is suitable for those who wish to gain experience and skills in specialist palliative medicine. There will be opportunity for career progression within the recently reformed Specialty Doctor contract.
The role will form part of the Hospice on-call rota (a 2% availability supplement is payable). The rota is non-resident, and provides cover for Rowans Hospice in-patient unit 1 in 5 including weekends, with senior supervision available at all times. We regret that on-call accommodation cannot be provided; doctors are required to remain within one hour’s travelling distance at all times whilst on-call.

Annual and Study Leave will be paid pro rata (FTE 30 days Annual Leave; two days Study Leave in 6 months).
Salary – Specialty Doctor pay scale MC75-01/ dependent on palliative care experience.
Requirements
Suitable candidates will have at least six months’ experience of General Medicine in the UK and in total at least four years post graduation experience
