We are looking for commercially minded and community focused Shop Managers who will lead a diverse team of people, taking a pro-active approach in the generation of donated stock, processing donations to the agreed standards and timescales to minimise stock loss and maximise income for the Charity.

You will be responsible for maintaining a high standard in all administration, financial management, cash handling, daily banking, security procedures and housekeeping tasks, taking the initiative to work with the wider retail team to share best practice and develop sales and the operation.

You will take a proactive interest in recruiting, developing and retaining your employees and volunteers, ensuring that they meet their personal aspirations as well as upholding the reputation that the Rowans Hospice is renowned for.

As well as ensuring an outstanding customer experience you will also be expected to actively promote all Rowans initiatives and campaigns to promote awareness of the Charity.

We are particularly interested in speaking to people who have retail experience, well developed interpersonal skills and proven leadership experience.

Our van porters assist with the collections and deliveries of furniture donations, for our growing Retail Shops to maximise income for the Charity.  The daily deliveries and collections are booked in advance with our customers and stock rotation is completed between our furniture shops and the warehouse regularly.

We are looking for candidates to meet the following criteria:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to lift and manoeuvre furniture safely
  • Ability to work flexibly within a multi-skilled team
  • Understanding or experience of working within a retail environment
  • Clean, full UK driving license is essential
  • Applicants must be a minimum age of 25 years for insurance purposes

Job Description


We are seeking an experienced Nurse to join Rowans Hospice in providing end of life care and support to people with dementia.  As a clinical nurse specialist practitioner you will support those people with dementia as part of ‘Remind’; a Portsmouth service supporting the non-statutory provision of dementia care, supporting a person from diagnosis to end of life.  This role however will predominately support a person and the family affected by complex dementia and needing end of life care.  This post will be an integral part of the ‘Remind’ team providing clinical advice and support.


The successful candidate will have the expertise to provide specialist clinical advice, education and training to clinical staff caring for people with dementia or other cognitive impairment.  You will provide specialist nursing assessment, intervention, advice and support to patients, their carers and families in their own homes.


You will be flexible and supportive in order to achieve the best possible care ensuring a cohesive, holistic multi-disciplinary approach to the management of end of life care for patients with dementia.  


The ideal candidate will have:

  • RGN/RMN qualified
  • NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council) registration
  • Five years’ experience of working with people with advanced dementia
  • Relevant experience in a palliative care setting.
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in delivering a wide range of educational events.
  • Experience of working with older people with advanced dementia.
  • Experience working in community, primary and acute settings.
  • Ideally a Masters in palliative care or equivalent (or working towards).
  • Car owner
