Moonlit Memories Walk

18 February 13

Registration for The Rowans Hospice Moonlit Memories Walk officially opened on Tuesday 19th February when the launch took place at Biscoes Solicitors’ offices in North End. Biscoes Solicitors is sponsoring the event for the sixth year and will once again be encouraging local people to take part in the biggest sponsored walk in aid of The Rowans Hospice.

The sixth Moonlit Memories Walk will take place on Saturday 22nd June starting at 11pm from Castle Field, Southsea. Participants have the choice of walking 12 miles or a shorter 6 mile route. The event is open to men and women over the age of 13. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Hannah Wilding, Events Fundraiser at The Rowans Hospice, said: "The Moonlit Memories Walk remains very popular and is the biggest fundraising event for The Rowans Hospice. The atmosphere and camaraderie amongst the walkers is amazing and everyone always enjoys the event. It is not a race and many people take their time to light a candle in the Portsmouth Anglican Cathedral in memory of someone special. Whether walking on your own or as part of a group, there is a team of volunteer marshals to support you around the route and to encourage you along the walk to finish and receive a medal.

"We are incredibly grateful to Biscoes who generously supports The Rowans Hospice by sponsoring this major event which means that all the sponsorship money raised by participants goes towards the cost of Hospice services."

First to register and taking part in the Moonlit Memories Walk for the first time was  Mandy Riggs who will be walking with her sister and mum in memory of her father, Rob Smith, who died on 22 June 2012, exactly one year ago to the day. Rob had been a patient at The Rowans Hospice and Mandy and her sister, Nikki Hillier, and mum, Jackie Smith, want to fundraise to say 'thank you' for the care he received.
