The Rowans Hospice is a registered charity dependent upon the goodwill of volunteers to provide practical support in providing its services and increasing income, which is much needed to ensure The Rowans Hospice can continue to operate its high standard of care to local people, of all ages and backgrounds.

We have 14 Hospice shops  and showrooms spread across our area of care and they play a vital role in raising funds and awareness for our cause. All of our shops rely on the wonderful help of volunteers to keep them running.

Working in our Trading Shops gives you the opportunity to make a huge difference, not only are you talking to customers about our hospice services, you would also be working in a team who work hard to ensure high quality donated items are available for customers to purchase every day. We offer on site training and hospice information enabling you to feel part of the whole hospice and trading team.

During 2011-2012 The Trading Company donated just over £330,000 to The Rowans Hospice. This is only possible with the generous support from volunteers such as yourself and kind donations of clothing, furniture, bric-a-brac and many other items from the general public.

Please pass on our needs for both donations and volunteers to your friends and acquaintances, tell others of our services, we are always happy to provide talks and presentations to interested people who may require more of an insight into The Rowans Hospice Services. Please inform us if you are aware of any group that would benefit from such a presentation.

We can even collect sack donations/furniture from a business or home, if you want to pull together some donations for us we would be delighted and you could GIFT AID  (ask your neighbours, work colleagues,  friends and family!)

Please call our COLLECTIONS LINE ON 023 9238 3611

Volunteering in our shops has already given many volunteers the time to meet others, use personal skills such as clock restorations, product knowledge and work as a team, learn new skills and be part of a charity who serves your local area.

Here are some of our shop volunteer roles:

  • Select and prepare items for display
  • Receive donated goods
  • Serve customers and operate the till
  • Sort and steam donated clothes
  • Maintain displays and shop presentation
  • Clean and price goods
  • Provide excellent customer service

All shops open Monday to Saturday. You can work either from 9.30am-1pm or 1pm-4.30pm

(Wickham and Lee on the Solent shops are now open on Sunday)

We operate a rota system for each shop, so there may be a choice of a set day for you to work either mornings or afternoons.

Serving customers at our till point and arranging deliveries etc. We have a continue flow of new furniture arriving and they all need a fine eye to review their condition and make some preparations before becoming available for purchase.

Leaflet/sack delivery volunteers

Are you fond of walking? We need volunteers to assist us with delivering leaflets/sacks to new shop locations as well as our existing areas to increase donations and an awareness of The Rowans Hospice and our Trading Company. Our areas are all mapped out and therefore directions on roads would be given and collections arranged for sometime later. Travel Expenses would be paid for you to be nearer the drop off area.

If you are interested in helping us, why not find a shop near you to visit.

The commitment of our voluntary work force is essential to the smooth and effective running of The Rowans Hospice Trading Company and The Rowans Hospice services.  The Hospice ward area has over 300 families a year through its corridors and our Hospice at Home service is now operational throughout our area. These along with all our other services depend on fundraising in order to continue. Your time is highly valued and appreciated as part of The Rowans Hospice service within the local community and we look forward to welcoming you into our developing team.
